Matched (Matched, Book 1)
Crossed (Matched, Book 2)
Reached (Matched, Book 3)
By: Ally Condie
My Rating: Three out of Five Stars
Best for: 12 and up
I keep hearing this series is the next Hunger Games, but I don’t see it.
Hunger Games lite, maybe. There wasn’t much by way of hunger or games in the Matched trilogy. I found it much more similar to The Giver than The Hunger Games.
I do know one thing though…
Katniss would have punched Cassia in the nose.
For the people in Matched, The Society chooses everything.
What music you listen too.
What books you read.
What food you eat.
Who you can love.
When you die.
Everything.
Of course, The Society knows what’s best. Your job, your food, your family…it’s all optimized to ensure maximum efficiency and satisfaction. Keeping you safe, well-fed, and comfortable is their job. Sounds like a life of bliss!
Just ask Karl Marx…
You can fill in the rest with the standard Young Adult stereotypes. Rise up against the oppressive regime. Instant love worth dying for. A love triangle.
The characters didn’t have a lot of depth, and neither did the plot. But I did enjoy the story enough to keep reading through three books.
I especially appreciated the PG content throughout.
Best for 12 and up.
Happy reading!
