The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy
By: Jeanne Birdsall
My Rating: Four out of Five Stars
Best for: 10 and under

Sweetness overload.

That’s really what this book was.

It’s a modern-day throwback to the days of simple things. You know…kids that make their own fun and get into mischief that isn’t really mischief. Think The Boxcar Children, Anne of Green Gables, and The Baby Sitters Club and you have an idea of the adventures, drama, and happy endings you’ll find in The Penderwicks: A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy.

In other words, it was a perfect summertime read to share with my 8 and 5-year-old audience. They enjoyed it, and I enjoyed that they enjoyed it.

I looked into the rest of the series. The remaining 4 books in the series follow the main characters through their growing up years, culminating in weddings and happily ever afters in the end. I’m okay not reading them, but there are fans for sure.

Perfect for fans of all things sweet and innocent. Read aloud or let your advanced 8-year-old’s or older read it on their own.
