This one held the attention of my younger kids more than my older kids, but it’s too long for an early reader to tackle alone.  So it’s a great read aloud.

Watch out for the descriptions of Ivan’s memories of his parents being killed.  I read those parts to my kids, but made sure to talk to them about it as we went.
