Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game by Michael Lewis
I listened to an audio version of Moneyball while my brother an I drove through the night on a cross-country trip to visit the Seattle Mariners at Spring Training. It was a fun trip, and listening to Moneyball was a fun way to get into baseball mode!
The story is interesting to me, but be warned–it’s quite baseball technical and heavy on numbers and the meaning and significants of baseball stats. If your not into that, you’re probably going to be bored to tears reading Moneyball. It does get into some details of the backroom workings of running a baseball team, like draft day decisions and pulling off big trades. Those stories are pretty cool, and I found myself wishing I could hear more.
Another watchout–Billy Beane has a really foul mouth. Consider yourself warned.
I don’t think I’ll recommend this book to anyone except those who know exactly what Moneyball is about and still want to read it.
